11 October 2008 Sermon Notes The Lord's Prayer- Pray to the Father
When we pray, what are the important points to take note of?
1) We address God as our Heavenly Father (Abba Father)
- Matthew 6:9-13
- Genesis 1:1, 3, 6a, 7b
- Genesis 2:7
-Isaiah 57:15 "I live in a high and holy place, but also with him who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite"
- Romans 8:15 "For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba Father" ."
-Hebrews 10:19-22a
-Pslams 145:8 "The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love"
When God was in the high and lofty place: 神= God= Elohim (greek)
When God came down from the high and lofty place: 耶和华上帝
What kind of Father is our Heavenly Father? Our heavenly Father is full of grace, mercy and love
What is grace? God giving to us what we do not deserve
- Isaiah 30:18a "Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you;"
-Luke 7:44-47 "...Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgive- for she loved much. But he who has been forgive little loves little" - it was by God's grace that they woman was forgiven of her sins
