26 July 2008 Sermon Notes Authority in the Country and Workplace
In a country: GOVERNMENT CITIZEN
3 truths regrading the authority structure in the country:
1) The Government of our country is established by God Romans 13:1 "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorites, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
Even Hitler's government was established by God. Without him, there would not have been an Israel today.
2) We must submit to the governing authorities of our country with the correct attitude. Titus 3:1 "Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good"
Daniel 3:16 - How Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego submitted to Nebuchadnezzar with the correct attitude even though they had different opinions.
3) We must obey the laws of the country. God will always respect the laws of a country as long as they do not violate the laws of God. Luke 20:22-25 "Give to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's."
1 Timothy 2:1-2 "I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness."
Proverbs 21:1 "The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.
In the workplace: EMPLOYER EMPLOYEE
2 important things to note as employers
1) Your contract with your employee must follow the laws of the country
2) You must pay your employees their wages and on time. James 5:1 "Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you." James 5:4 "Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty."
Deuteronomy 24:15 "Pay him his wages each day before sunset, because he is poor and is counting on it. Otherwise he may cry to the LORD against you, and you will be guilty of sin.
Colossians 3:22-23 "Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favour, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the LORD. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the LORD, not for men"
